3D Systems announced today that it has signed agreements to acquire approximately 80% of Phenix Systems, a leading global provider of Direct Metal Selective Laser Sintering 3D Printers based in Riom, France. Phenix Systems designs, manufactures and sells proprietary Direct Metal 3D Printers that can print chemically pure fully dense metal and ceramic parts from very fine powders with the granularity of 6 to 9 microns.

The Boeing Co. (Chicago, IL) continues to move quickly to solve issues surrounding the lithium-ion batteries installed in its 787 Dreamliner, which has been grounded since mid-January, and the model could be back in the air by June. On Jan. 16, the FAA issued an emergency directive that grounded all Boeing 787s in the US following two incidents, including one fire, involving lithium-ion batteries.
