WESTEC 2015: Grinder Experts to Exhibit New Centerless Grinder

Total Grinding Solutions (TGS) will be sending its new centerless grinder to the WESTEC show, scheduled from September 15 – 17 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The TGS team will exhibit in booth 815, along with several other companies that specialize in turnkey grinding systems, and grinder components, spare parts and service. Autos: Things Are Looking Up South of the Border

Sitting nearly halfway between the North Pole and the Equator, Traverse City, MI, has been the site of the Center for Automotive Research’s Management Briefing Seminar for 50 years. One of the hot topics at this year’s event was focused on a spot much closer to the Equator, Mexico. That country has become the place to manufacture vehicles in North America. Survey: 3D Printing Needs to Develop More Metals

More metals need to be developed for 3D printing, according to a survey conducted for Stratasys Direct Manufacturing. “Decidedly, metals are most highly-coveted of across all industries, with 84% of respondents interested in seeing more metal material developments,” according to a summary of the survey presented at a Stratasys Direct Manufacturing facility in Austin, TX. CAR MBS: Recovering from a Dark and Stormy Night

Power was not fully restored to the Grand Traverse Resort until more than an hour after the scheduled end of the first day of the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) Management Briefing Seminar (MBS). That could have been the bad news. It wasn't. Thanks to diligence, effort and not a small bit of luck CAR was able to salvage the afternoon session of the event in the wake of a ferocious thunderstorm that ravaged northwestern lower Michigan the night before. SME’s WESTEC Keynote Explores the Impact of Manufacturing on Hollywood



WESTEC, the premier West Coast manufacturing event, recently announced its programming for the 2015 event, which includes a keynote on the power of manufacturing in Hollywood. Jason Lopes of Legacy Effects will discuss how manufacturing — specifically additive manufacturing/3D printing — is changing the face of special effects in the film industry. Lopes is a lead systems engineer at Legacy Effects, and will talk about “3D Printing for Hollywood” and how it is impacting some of the industry’s biggest effects for movies like Avengers Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, Terminator Genesys, Iron Man 3, Hunger Games, Pacific Rim, Twilight: Breaking Dawn, and others. Inside the Silicon Valley of Manufacturing Technology: Premium Turning Machines
